Attention Target shoppers.
If you’re feeling the strain and pressure of inflation, Target says it is doing something about that.
On Monday, the Minneapolis-based nationwide retailer announced they are lowering prices on an assortment of about 5,000 “frequently shopped” items at its stores and online.
Prices are already reduced on about 1,500 items, according to a news release, with more to come over the summer.
Look for household staples items like vegetables, snacks, yogurt, coffee, paper towel,s and pet foods among the items the company said consumers will save “millions of dollars on” over the course of the summer.Target’s new price reductions, they say, are on top of routine price adjustments made to its “everyday low prices” to stay competitive in markets.
“We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget, and Target is here to help them save more,” said Rick Gomez, Target’s executive vice president, and chief food, essentials, and beauty officer, in a news release. “Our teams work hard to deliver great value every day, and these new lower prices across thousands of items will add up to additional big savings for the millions of consumers that shop Target each week for their everyday needs.”
Consumers have dealt with the highest inflation in decades for nearly two years now. Prices across several categories, including grocery, household essentials, and dining out, were up exponentially.
In April there was a slight decrease in groceries, after increasing in March, according to Consumer Price Index (CPI) monthly data released May 15 by the federal Labor Department. On a year-over-year basis, inflation rose 3.4 percent from the same time a year ago.
